Loading Pallets in a Semi-Trailer
Efficient loading is essential in transport to make the most of limited cargo space. Here are some strategies to make the best use of your loading space.

Cargo Pallets
Pallets are the indispensable building blocks of the logistics world, and they come in many varieties. From the widely known Europallets to the robust block pallets, each type has its own unique specifications. It is essential not only to know which pallets you are using, but also to understand their dimensions and weight. This information is the key to effective and efficient loading. In this article, we will assume the Europallet (EPAL) and the open block pallet, as these are the most common pallets in Europe.
Europallet size: 80 x 120 cm (load capacity 1500kg)
Block pallet size: 100 x 120 cm (load capacity 1000kg)
How many pallets fit in which type of trailer/truck?
In the overview below you can see exactly how many pallets fit in the type of semi-trailer or truck.
Type of Trailer | Europallets | Block Pallets |
---|---|---|
Closed box | 33 | 26 |
LZV | 51 | 38 |
Open trailer | 34 | 26 |
Combination trailer | 38 | 30 |
Tip: Want to quickly calculate the number of pallet spaces in your trailer? Just multiply the length (in cm) and width (in cm) of the loading space and then divide this by 9600. So: (length x width) / 9600 = number of pallet spaces

Double the number of pallet spaces
A double decking solution is ideal in situations where the load cannot be stacked on top of each other, e.g. a pallet of boxes. By creating a second loading floor, you can use the full capacity of the vehicle. Our solutions (XP, AF and SC) can even be used with mixed loading heights. For example, you can double the number of pallet spaces in a semi-trailer from 33 to 66. This increases your efficiency and reduces your CO2 emissions per kilometer.
